Container Load & CBM Calculator
Furniture ships air. Volume, not weight, usually sets your freight cost — so knowing how many units fit decides your price per piece.
Shipment volume
–
Standard container reference
| Type | Internal L × W × H (approx.) | Nominal volume | Practical load | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20' GP | 5.90 × 2.35 × 2.39 m | 33 m³ | 25–28 m³ | Dense goods, mixed small orders, stone or metal furniture |
| 40' GP | 12.03 × 2.35 × 2.39 m | 67 m³ | 55–58 m³ | Flat-pack and case goods |
| 40' HC | 12.03 × 2.35 × 2.69 m | 76 m³ | 65–68 m³ | Upholstery, mattresses, light bulky items — the furniture default |
Roll-pack mattresses
Compressed foam and hybrid mattresses can cut volume by 70–80%, multiplying units per container.
Knock-down (KD) design
Detachable legs, arms and backs often turn a 1.6 m³ sofa carton into 0.9 m³. Ask suppliers for a KD option.
Mix to fill
Top up a half-empty 40' HC with nightstands or cushions; the marginal freight on those units is close to zero.
